AUS Students Assisting In Health Fair

The Students of American University St Vincent had the privilege to work along with St Vincent & the Grenadines Health Department, in carrying out the 2015 Health and Kidney Screening Fair. The students were all assembled at the Girls High School where they learned and conducted health checks and other surveys on over 400 persons. In addition, these students got first-hand experience in being educated on hypertension and diabetes but most importantly kidney screening.
Some of the procedures that were carried out are Testing persons for high blood pressure, diabetes, and body mass index (whether an individual has a normal weight for his or her age and height or if they are overweight) and testing of kidneys (using urine and blood samples).
The turnout at the health fair was great, the continuous flow of the Vincentian public who expressed interest in being a part of it. The students greatly cherished every moment they had whether it was interacting with the patients or testing, they have heightened their knowledge and sharpened up their clinical skills.
