    Program Overview

    Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Cyber Security

    The Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security from AUS will equip learners with practical hands-on techniques and leadership skills to navigate the ever-evolving challenges faced in the world of cybersecurity. Now more than ever, there is the need for practical inclined education to meet the present and evolving demand for cybersecurity. With the current dynamics in our world, operating entities need individuals with the knowledge and ability to interpret and implement technical and administrative concepts in practice towards achieving an effective cybersecurity program.

    Our courses are developed with sound industry knowledge in mind and pulled from industry-applicable books of knowledge with topics including ethical aspects of cybersecurity, security risk assessment, countermeasures, incidents, and proactive responses. Through these topics, our learners can build sound skills and practical skills in risk analysis and management, cryptography, vulnerability identification, prioritization, classification, and remediation, user access lifecycle management, endpoint, and network security utilities, service continuity management, regulatory and non-regulatory security audits, security governance, and metrics reporting.

    Master’s (M.Sc.) in Cyber Security

    The Cybersecurity Master’s program curriculum consists of courses, electives, and a thesis that can be completed in 12 to 18 months. The courses are developed with sound industry knowledge in mind and pulled from industry applicable books of knowledge with topics including ethical aspects of cybersecurity, security risk assessment, countermeasures, incidents, and proactive responses. Through these topics, our learners can build sound skills and practical skills in risk analysis and management, cryptography, vulnerability identification, prioritization, classification, and remediation, user access lifecycle management, endpoint, and network security utilities, service continuity management, regulatory and non-regulatory security audits, security governance, and metrics reporting.

    Class Delivery

    The AUS cybersecurity program is built on world-class technology platforms, and we extend these platforms to our learners. Through our online platforms, we provide remote learning opportunities to our learners who are not limited by geographical boundaries. Our classes are delivered in real-time through our streaming technologies to allow our learners to interact in real-time with their instructors and peers. Classes are recorded for playback by learners. We also provide world in class technology labs that are available to our learners 24/7 during their enrollment periods to achieve ongoing hands-on practice, research, and case study analysis. Our labs are equipped with latest technologies to fully simulate what you will find in practice.

    Goals

    a) Ensure that students are well grounded in Information technology (IT), to equip them with the knowledge and skills that could be deployed in software design, development, production techniques, application, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems.

    b) Ensure that students understand IT within the framework of different accountabilities including network administration, software development and installation, and the planning and management of organization’s technology life cycle, hardware and software maintenance, upgrade and replacement.

    c) Ensure that students are imparted with theoretical knowledge in advanced networking and practical skills in cyber forensics which will enable them to effectively participate in providing cyber security for organizations and businesses.

    d) Inculcate students of the University with problem solving, critical thinking, software engineering, and network engineering and cyber security skills.

    e) Produce graduates with strong moral and ethical basis for the practice of Information Technology profession.

    Graduation Requirements

    Bachelor’s Degree

    Graduation requirements include completion of a total of 120 credit hours of instruction in the American University of St. Vincent (AUS) General Education Requirements (44 credits) and 68 credit hours in core courses such as Digital Forensic and Incident Response, Advances in Information Technology Infrastructure and Networking, Application and Data Security, Hacking Techniques, Tools and Incident Handling, etc. Also, students will be required to take 2 – 4 elective courses from a list of 13 elective courses such as Data Privacy and Regulations, Perimeter Defense and Design, Advanced Linux Security, Advanced Windows Security, etc.

    Students with 2-year College Diploma (Associate Degree) in relevant disciplines may be granted transfer credits in courses that are similar to the AUS General Education Requirements and allowed to proceed to take core courses towards fulfilling the graduation requirements of B.Sc. (Cyber Security) at the American University of St. Vincent (AUS).

    Industry Certifications Included in the Program

    AUSS’s Cybersecurity degrees have the unique ability to allow students to join our program and walk away with industry-recognized certifications.

    Courses with certification options include the following:

    • Information Security Governance, Auditing & Compliance. This course prepares students for the CISA exam.
    • Principles of Cybersecurity and Information Security Management. This course prepares students for the CISSP exam.
    • Ethical Hacking. This course prepares students for the CEH exam.
    • Network Security. This course prepares students for the ECES exam.
    • Cloud Migration and Security. This course prepares students for the CCSP exam.

    Admission Requirements

    The admission requirements for the B.Sc. in cybersecurity at AUS include:

    • A completed application form.
    • Scanned copies of your high school results.
    • Scanned copy of your passport.
    • Transcripts from any college or university you attended.
    • Two letters of recommendation.
    • A personal statement.

    Applicants to the M.Sc. in Cybersecurity program must provide the following information for admission:

    • An undergraduate degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, And Mathematics) or social sciences discipline.
    • A minimum B admission average: Applicants are required to have a minimum admission average of 75% (B) during the previous two years of full-time university study for an undergraduate degree.
    • English proficiency test: An English proficiency test will be required for any applicant whose first language is not English.

    Tuition and Fees

    Tuition: US$2,250 per semester.

    Number of Semesters Per Year: 3

    Part-Time Students: (Students enrolled in less than 10 credit hours/units per semester): US$250 / credit

    Other Fees:

    Application Fee: US$50

    Enrollment Fee: US$500

    Student Government Fee: US$50 / semester

    Examination Fee: US$100 / semester

    Within one week of a completed application file, including all necessary documents is received; an admissions counselor will schedule an interview to be done either over the telephone or personally at our campus in St Vincent. Applicants are advised that being granted an interview is not a guarantee of acceptance.

     

    The Purpose of the Interview

     

    To evaluate the applicant regarding his or her:

    • Intellectual and academic ability
    • Communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Knowledge of the medical field
    • Hobbies, special talents, volunteer experience
    • Personal qualities, character and motivation
    • Willingness to be a team player
    • Compassion, empathy and ability to deal with everyday issues
    • The interview also allows the student to ask pertinent questions and to introduce any special circumstances that should be considered.

    Following the Admissions Committee interview, the student will be notified of their admission status within one week. After receipt of the acceptance letter, the student is required to acknowledge their intention by returning the acceptance response form included with their acceptance letter, as well as mail the seat deposit fee to our Admissions Office within one week or by the deadline stated in the acceptance letter. This deposit will be credited towards the first-semester tuition fees when the student matriculates. The deposit will not be refunded if the student rescinds his or her acceptance
